Wheel-A-Thon information for 5th grade students

The annual May Fete Wheel-A-Thon fundraiser for the Wyoming Parent School Association will be held in the Hilltop neighborhood 1-4 p.m. Sunday, April 14. Students in kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to participate.

Children may cycle, scooter, or skate a loop (one mile for bikes, smaller for other wheels) that begins and ends in the cul-de-sac at the intersection of Tohatchi and Abilene Trails (see map below). All kids must wear helmets and parents must accompany students in grades K-2 on the course. Wyoming Police will be on hand with extra helmets, and the route will be closed to traffic for the duration of the event. Jim’s Bike Shop, located at 8015 Plainfield Road in Deer Park, will once again sponsor a bike maintenance tent at the cul-de-sac. In the event of forecasted rain, the Wheel-A-Thon will be rescheduled for Sunday, April 28, 1-4 p.m.

Fifth graders may pick up a registration packet in the Wyoming Middle School front office. Please encourage your children to obtain sponsors for their ride – prizes are awarded for the most laps ridden and most money raised per grade and overall. Winners are announced at the May Fete Coronation ceremony in the Fine Arts Center Ballroom. Simply bring the registration packet, your child, and his/her wheels to the cul-de-sac at the intersection of Tohatchi and Abilene Trails on the afternoon of April 14 and get moving!

Research & Innovation Center coming to Wyoming High School

MEETING TONIGHT (3/11) – 6:30 PM – HIGH SCHOOL MEDIA CENTER

Wyoming High School is collaborating with community leaders to renovate and expand the current media center. This Innovation Research Center will be a space that supports STREAM (Science, Technology, Research, Arts, and Mathematics) – a culture of learning and encouraging students to be innovators, critical thinkers, research experts, and creators of solutions.

The STREAM Innovation Research Center will provide a platform for a new capstone curriculum that will be offered to all Wyoming High School students and will be a model for high schools throughout the country as a place where students can build the future. Wyoming High School students excel in academics, arts, and athletics and this space and curriculum will give them access to the tools of innovation.

Wyoming City School District is working with the Wyoming School Foundation to privately fund this project. No tax money will be used.

If you’d like to learn more about the space and the enhanced curriculum that it will support, join Assistant to the Superintendent Dr. Ashley Whitely and Wyoming High School teachers at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 11, in the Wyoming High School media center.

The Foundation has raised $997,000 toward their goal of $1,250,000 for this project. If you’d like to financially contribute to this project, please contact the Wyoming School Foundation at 513-821-6909 or office@wyomingschoolfoundation.org.

WHS and Wyoming Alcohol Task Force hosting events on the dangers of the binge-drinking and co-ingesting
On Wednesday, March 13, Julie Buckner from the Josh E. Levine Foundation will speak to Wyoming High School students about the foundation’s efforts to change the culture of binge drinking among young people, particularly at the high school and college levels, and the dangers of co-ingesting alcohol and stimulants. Wyoming High School and the Wyoming Alcohol Task Force will be hosting a program at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in Wyoming Middle School’s Fay Auditorium for all Wyoming High School and 7th/8th grade parents and guardians who would like to learn more about the Foundation and the next day’s assembly.
The Josh E. Levine Foundation partners with peer-to-peer support networks recognizing the connection between binge drinking and mental health. Josh’s mother, Julie, has garnered national media attention and brought her “It’s Fun Until…” presentation to high schools, colleges and other organizations in Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Florida. More information about the Josh E. Levine Foundation can be found at http://www.joshelevinefoundation.org/.
From a Cincinnati-area high school student: “Thank you so much for taking time to speak to us and share the story of your son. The way you take your story and use it to change teenage lives is beyond incredible. I love the tagline that you use and will definitely carry the message behind it with me as I go on to college and move on into adulthood.”
We hope you can join us for this informative presentation!

JWC SHAMROCK YOUR NEIGHBORS!

The Junior Women’s Club of Wyoming will be holding their 3rd annual Wyoming Shamrock Shakedown from March 1st to March 17th. The JWC Shamrock Shakedown is one of the primary fundraisers for the Junior Women’s Club of Wyoming, a nonprofit organization that impacts the local community through volunteering and fundraising. Every year, the club supports a variety of organizations and causes by dispensing funds from the Junior Women’s Club of Wyoming Foundation, including Wyoming City Schools, Bethany House, CHECK Foster Care Center, and more.
Here’s how it works: Under the cover of darkness from March 1st to March 17th, our JWC leprechauns will be out at night planting the yards of lucky friends with shamrocks. Your friend will wake up to a field full of clover! The next day, the shamrocks will disappear as quietly as they arrived. Then, they’re off to grow in another lucky friend’s yard. You also have the option of having our leprechauns leave a goody bag full of St. Patrick’s Day treats and treasures! Use the links above to get more information.
Shamrock Fields Are Available in 3 Sizes:
Small – 12 Shamrocks – $25
Medium – 24 Shamrocks – $35
Large – 48 Shamrocks – $50
Back for 2019! Goody Bags! Goody bags are $6 each and are sure to brighten the recipients day!
New for 2019! Upgrade your field with bigger, better graphics including a leprechaun, rainbow, Happy St. Patrick’s Day Sign, pot of gold, & horseshoes. $15 per field. Order today! Supplies Are Limited.
