Parents of Model UN Students: We are so excited to be taking 20 nations to the Ohio Model United Nations this year! Following are a few details that you need to know.
Depart and Return: Sunday March 13, please drop your students off at 11:30 am at the Middle School Cafeteria. We will eat dinner at about 3:00, but that will be only meal of the day, so please eat lunch prior to arrival.
We will leave for Columbus at about 12:00.and return Tuesday at about 2:30 pm
Meals: Your student will need money for dinner on Sunday at North Market (about $10-$15), and for lunch at a fast food place on the way home on Tuesday (about $10). Monday night we will have dinner at Buca Di Bepo, and your student will need $23 for that. They should bring cash to cover those expenses. Their parent guide will collect the $23 for dinner and we will have a set menu there.
For breakfast, the students will eat in their rooms. They should bring their own food, or coordinate with their roommates to plan.
Pictures: We are encouraging the parent guides who are with us to take pictures and upload them to a smugmug site. Use this link to check out pictures. The password is Cowboys
- Hosted by SmugMug; your photos look better here.
Medication: Remember if your child takes ANY medication, you need to complete a medical form for the trip. This includes any medication that they take at school or at home.
We will have our cell phones with us and can be reached at
Lisa Nocks 513-706-0844
Nick Allen 513-478-6450
What to pack and not pack: Below are some basic guidelines for packing.
- Regarding the traditional attire many teams make the choice to wear something light under their traditional attire. They will be wearing the attire for two days in a row, so it it nice to have something clean to put on underneath.
- Tuesday for the closing ceremony, they will have an OMUN t shirt provided and can wear jeans or pants. (not sweatpants)
- The dance Monday night is not a formal dance, they should however, plan to dress in clothing that would pass our school dress code. Essentially, what they would wear to school dance here, is fine.
- We will be walking to dinner on Sunday and dinner on Monday. It is a several block walk to both locations so students should make sure they have comfortable walking shoes and outerwear appropriate for the weather.
Be aware, that the hotel rooms have two Queen size beds and we anticipate four students per room.
Students should follow all school rules regarding what is acceptable to have with them and what is not, students are not to bring medications, (the nurse will have all required medications if the proper forms have been submitted.) game systems, Kool Aid, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and weapons. They may bring cell phones and laptops but they need to be aware that they are responsible for the security of their own items.
Medications for Model UN Trip
If your child will be requiring medications of any kind during the Model UN trip, a medication form signed by your child’s physician and parent/guardian must be turned into the nurse. This includes all prescription and over-the-counter medications. Medications cannot be dispensed by the nurse without a signed medication form. The medication form can be found here. All medications must be dropped off to the school nurse no later than Friday, March 11th.

We are looking for volunteers to donate supplies as well as to help out at lunch and in the “behind-the-scenes” tab room. - WMS will be holding its annual Scholastic Book Fair from March 21-24–just in time for students to find a new book to read over Spring Break! The book fair would not be possible without our fantastic parent volunteers! VARIETY SHOW AUDITIONS! The Variety Show is April 15 and 16 – you must be available for both shows. The theme this year is USA.
The auditions will be on Wednesday, March 9. From 4:15 -4:45 p.m. we will audition 8th graders who wish to be considered as emcees. From 5:00 – 6:45 p.m. we will audition individual/group acts.
Rehearsals will be March 17, March 23, April 6, April 7, April 12, April 14 – if your child is cast, they will be called for half of the rehearsals (depending which act they are in). Spring break falls in the middle of this schedule so it is very important they are available when they are called.
The Sign-UP Genius link for auditions is http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0849adae2dab9-auditions. You can also check the blog at www.wyomingms.blogspot.com for details.
When you sign up, you will HAVE TO LIST YOUR ACT with title of act, song title, and a description of what you are performing. You will also have to list everyone that is in your group. Those who fail to do this, will NOT be permitted to audition.
Students may only audition for ONE thing (except 8th graders who may also audition to be an emcee). There will also be an 8th grade closing number that will be approved…. details will be communicated to 8th grade families – this is in addition to anything else for which your child will audition.
ALL Acts are limited to 3 minutes.
ONLY REALLY WELL-PREPARED and WELL-DONE ACTS WILL BE CONSIDERED. They MUST be polished and perfect at the audition to be considered for the show. The rehearsal schedule is just waaaayyyyy too short to consider acts that need work.
It is a VARIETY SHOW – think outside the box and come up with something creative! There is safety in numbers, especially for younger students. If only 20 acts are selected, solo performances from younger students are not as likely to be cast. They won’t take 20 singer-songwriter acts– so dance, juggle, do something different! This is just parent to parent advice for when you are helping your child find something to audition as I like everyone to be cast, but they really can’t take everyone. Make sure your child is well-prepared!
From Spring: “If people do not know their song, or they choose the same song as someone else, they need to know that someone else may be chosen over them. They need to look at the sign up and list the song they are singing or playing or skit they are doing on the Sign Up Genius link or they will not be allowed to audition.”
