Attention Parents of Rising 7th grade students. The Rising Grade 7 Course Information Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, February 24 at 7 p.m. has been cancelled. In place of this meeting, parents can attend any of the following Registration Meetings that are scheduled. Dear Families of Current Students in Grades 5, 6, and 7,
It’s hard to believe, but we are already gearing up for the 2016-2017 school year. After many months of engaging students, parents, and staff in a discussion about what learning in the future can and should look like for our students, we are excited to be offering a new educational opportunity next year. This opportunity will take place in the form of Experienceships, a hands-on, authentic, and ungraded learning experience for students that will be based upon their interests. Experienceships will be offered to all 6th through 8th grade students as part of their weekly schedule.

Don’t worry, we’ll post information on the blog as well. Student meetings will be held in March and students will complete their registration cards beginning March 14. Registration cards will be due March 21.

Box Tops 4 Education
It’s Box Tops submission time again! Get them off of your counters and out of your junk drawers. Each of the primary buildings has a drawer labeled Box Tops near the office. There are also collection boxes in the office at the Middle School and at the Board of Education office.
In December Wyoming PSA received a check for $952.10 – thanks to you! Each of those Box Tops is worth a dime, and as you can see they really add up. Go to www.btfe.com to see if you regularly purchase a brand name product that carries a Box Top, or to download weekly coupons.
Turn in your Box Tops before Friday February 26th so they can be included in our school’s April check – it’s our last chance this school year to earn cash for our schools. All Box Tops turned in after this date will go toward next fall’s check.

WSMA presents the Wyoming Winter Music Festival on Friday, February 26 at 7 p.m. Don’t miss the Wyoming Winter Music Festival on Friday, February 26 at 7 p.m. at the Wyoming Fine Arts Center. This is the Wyoming School Music Association’s largest single fundraiser and features over 50 Wyoming High School students performing in large and small group ensembles in this casual, and truly unique, adult-only event. The Festival will take place in four different rooms at the Fine Arts Center. Guests will gather at the beginning for beverages, snacks, and fabulous music from our Cello Quintet and “My Fair Lady” cast before following their “backstage passes” and rotating for small group performances. In the small group performances, guests will enjoy musically inspired hors d’oeuvres while enjoying venues such as Classical, Broadway, British Invasion, and Singer-Songwriter. At the end, guests will join back together for a rousing musical finale from the Corral Pit Band in the ballroom – with dessert! It is truly a celebration of the music and arts in our community! Tickets are only $30 per person and include beverages, and musically inspired food – in addition to the wonderful music provided by our student musicians! Filipino-Americans are one of the largest Asian communities in the country and bring a unique culture to the diversity of our American society. Families are invited to learn about the Philippine culture through the country’s dance, music and style of martial arts. The audience will have an opportunity to participate after each of the two 1-hour performances (3PM-4PM, then repeated, at 4-5PM) and to partake of free sampling of Filipino street food. The Wyoming School Foundation invites you to join the excitement of the 5th Annual 5K Fun Run! The course is in a flat residential area in the Village of Wyoming (Start/Finish: Worthington & Beech). The race is open to runners and walkers of all ages (grades K-4 run 2.5K).

Attention Parents of Model UN Students
Our trip to Columbus for Ohio Model United Nations is fast approaching! We wanted to take this opportunity to relay some important information.
Between 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, we have 140 students and 20 parent chaperones attending this year.
- We are leaving for Columbus on Sunday, March 13 at noon. Students will need to be at the middle school by no later than 11:30am.
- We will be returning to the middle school by about 2:30pm on Tuesday, March 17, at which time students will be dismissed to go home.
- We will be traveling to and from Columbus on 4 school buses.
- If your child is bringing medicine of any kind to Columbus, they need to provide the appropriate documentation and medicine to the school nurse by Wednesday, March 4. (The form is posted in the latest announcement on the Model UN Blackboard announcement)
- There is important information for our 7th and 8th grade students on the Model UN Blackboard page.

Track and Field season starts March 7 – All 7th and 8th graders are eligible for joining the track and field team. The first day of practice is March 7. If you are interested please register through Final Forms. Registering does not commit you to be on the team but will allow the coaches to email information about the upcoming season.

VARIETY SHOW AUDITIONS! The Variety Show is April 15 and 16 – you must be available for both shows. The theme this year is USA.
The auditions will be on Wednesday, March 9. From 4:15 -4:45 p.m. we will audition 8th graders who wish to be considered as emcees. From 5:00 – 6:45 p.m. we will audition individual/group acts.
Rehearsals will be March 17, March 23, April 6, April 7, April 12, April 14 – if your child is cast, they will be called for half of the rehearsals (depending which act they are in). Spring break falls in the middle of this schedule so it is very important they are available when they are called.
The Sign-UP Genius link for auditions will be created and go live on March 1. You can also check the blog at www.wyomingms.blogspot.com for details.
When you sign up, you will HAVE TO LIST YOUR ACT with title of act, song title, and a description of what you are performing. You will also have to list everyone that is in your group. Those who fail to do this, will NOT be permitted to audition.
Students may only audition for ONE thing (except 8th graders who may also audition to be an emcee). There will also be an 8th grade closing number that will be approved…. details will be communicated to 8th grade families – this is in addition to anything else for which your child will audition.
ALL Acts are limited to 3 minutes.
ONLY REALLY WELL- PREPARED and WELL-DONE ACTS WILL BE CONSIDERED. They MUST be polished and perfect at the audition to be considered for the show. The rehearsal schedule is just waaaayyyyy too short to consider acts that need work.
It is a VARIETY SHOW – think outside the box and come up with something creative! There is safety in numbers, especially for younger students. If only 20 acts are selected, solo performances from younger students are not as likely to be cast. They won’t take 20 singer-songwriter acts– so dance, juggle, do something different! This is just parent to parent advice for when you are helping your child find something to audition as I like everyone to be cast, but they really can’t take everyone. Make sure your child is well-prepared!
From Spring: “If people do not know their song, or they choose the same song as someone else, they need to know that someone else may be chosen over them. They need to look at the sign up and list the song they are singing or playing or skit they are doing on the Sign Up Genius link or they will not be allowed to audition.”
