Looking for a great way to get involved and support families in our community?  Consider joining the Board of Wyoming Youth Services.  Wyoming Youth Services is a local nonprofit that has been serving Wyoming youth and their families since 1981.  Our services emphasize volunteerism, prevention and support and include service learning, counseling & crisis intervention, after school and school break programs, parent education and community forums, and prevention education.  The Board of Trustees meets from 8:30-9:45 a.m. on the 2nd Thursday of each month, September through June, with an annual retreat in August.  For more information or to submit your letter of interest, please contact Kimberly Hauser, Wyoming Youth Services Executive Director, at kimberly@wyomingyouthservices.com.

An annual student fee is established each year. This fee is used to help defray the cost of consumable materials and supplies used in the instructional program. The amount is established each year by action of the Board of Education. The amount for the 2015-16 school year is:

Grades 5-6    $35.00

Grades 7-8    $45.00

Please turn in the fee money to your homeroom teacher or to Sandy Strom in the Middle School office no later than Friday, September 25th. Checks may be made payable to Wyoming Board of Education. Wyoming Youth Football Association is hosting our Annual Cheer Exhibition at Wyoming Middle School on Sunday September 20th from 8am. to 6pm. Please come out for this special event. This is a showcase of our youth cheerleaders from all the schools in our league. The cost is $4.00. Wyoming cheerleaders will perform starting at 1pm with our k/1 squad. 3rd/4th grade squad starting at 3:30pm. 5th grade squad starting at 4:30 and 6th grade squad starting at 5:30pm. String parents,

Attached is a link to the T-shirt company.  They manufacture our performance polo as well as all spirit wear.  Fifth grade string parents, unless you have an older child that is passing down their polo, your young musician will need a polo shirt for all concerts this year.

Spirit wear is optional.  The design came from renowned cartoonist, Jeff Stahler, former Wyoming resident.  We offer short sleeve and long sleeve t-shirts as well as hoodies. Wyoming Recreation Center After-School Enrichment Programs at the Civic Center

WRC would like to help parents simplify their lives by making student’s after-school activities more convenient for their schedules. Beginning the week of September 29, we are offering a 5-week program to promote life-skills and build hobbies to benefit your child in a positive way. Typically these are evening activities which prevent family dinners and focused homework time. There’s no need to drive or get stuck in traffic in order to get your child to their activity. They will walk over to the Civic Center with their friends using the crossing guard at Worthington Ave. Sign your child up today!

 

Yoga – Breathe, Love, Chill

Is your child complaining about body aches or feeling stressed? Yoga is a great practice for youth and teens to learn how to breathe and release tight muscles as their bodies change and grow. Cezarina Trone, Certified Yoga Instructor and Life Coach, will help your student feel comfortable in their own skin by stretching and relaxing, while providing strategies for dealing with life through this transitional stage. Mats will be provided. Comfortable stretchy clothes are needed.

Science Matters – Under the Sea (5th and 6th graders)

Plunge into this club as we dive into the wonders and mysteries of the ocean. We’ll travel way down to the ocean floor and back up to the sandy shore. Dissect a squid! Along the way we’ll discover spectacular sea creatures, collect and classify shells, and much more. Throughout this club each young explorer will soak up all the knowledge and adventure of the treasures of the sea.

Sensei Alex Dell from JKO Cincinnati is a young man who has been training for 20 years and is a great role model for your student. Crafts for a Cause – Beading!

Does your child like to create works of art and spend time with friends? Experienced crafter, Laura Glassman, will teach beading for this 5-week session. Students can make unique creations to keep or give as gifts for someone special. Beading is a wonderful hobby and promotes creativity, relaxation, socialization and patience — all while learning to design and create meaningful gifts for friends and family.

Tech Club will begin on September 30 for Tech Leaders.  1st quarter tech members will start the following Wednesday.  Tech Club application are due this Friday to Mrs. Reiber in the Learning Commons.

 

We are excited to announce that Power of the Pen tryouts are right around the corner! Seventh and eighth graders who are interested in trying out for this year’s creative writing team should plan to attend the following three tryout dates: Tuesday, September 22 Tuesday, September 29 Tuesday, October 6 Tryouts will be held at 7:00 AM and 3:20 PM in room 202; students may plan to try out at either time.
