Dear 6th Grade Wyoming Middle School Parents,
I would like to share that Jan McGlynn is retiring as of November 25th, 2014. Mrs. McGlynn has spent 29 of her 35 years of teaching in Wyoming. During her time at Wyoming she has taught many subjects including social studies, science, math and Cowboy Bell.
Mrs. McGlynn’s dedication to our students is immeasurable. She has participated, coordinated or established programs such as the Teen Advisory Program, Girls on the Run, Camp Kern, the Religious Field Trips and many other valuable experiences for her students. Following the death of her husband, Dan, she started the McGlynn Family Fund through Wyoming School Foundation so our schools could have resources to help build self-esteem in our students.
Mrs. McGlynn loves Wyoming. Her sons are graduates of Wyoming High School and her grandson is a student at the primary division. She stated in her announcement letter, “I am going to miss coming here every day, but I am also looking forward to moving on to the other adventures and challenges that life will hold.” She later stated, “I hope I have made a difference, as I put all my passion for educating the whole child into it.”
I would like to thank Mrs. McGlynn for her 29 years of service to Wyoming City Schools and her positive influence on so many students, staff, parents and community.
As stated earlier, Mrs. McGlynn will be retiring on November 25th, 2014. Mrs. Marti Butler has been hired to complete the school year as the social studies and Cowboy Bell teacher on the Bolton/Sanders/McGlynn team. Mrs. Butler is a veteran teacher with 12 years’ experience at Wyoming Middle School teaching social studies and language arts and 20 years’ experience overall. She retired at the end of the 2013 school year. Mrs. Butler is a quality teacher who is known for making positive relationships with students.
Our plan is that Mrs. Butler will work with Mrs. McGlynn over the next three weeks to prepare for the transition. She will be in the classroom with Mrs. McGlynn on November 6 and 7 to meet and learn about the students and begin building relationships with them. She will also spend a day at Camp Kern next week.
Mrs. McGlynn is very excited about her retirement. She plans to spend time with her family and travel. She will continue to live in Wyoming because of the strong sense of community that Wyoming values.
Although no gift is expected or needed, Mrs. McGlynn asks that any donation or gifts be given to the McGlynn Family Fund at the Wyoming School Foundation so the work that she cherishes can be extended through the fund. Donations can be sent to directly to the Foundation at 420 Springfield Pike, Suite K, made payable to the Wyoming School Foundation or online at wyomingschoolfoundation.org.
The students and staff will honor Mrs. McGlynn at the end of the school day on November 25.
In closing, I would like to thank Mrs. McGlynn for her service to the students and the Wyoming Community. She will be missed!
I appreciate your ongoing support of Wyoming Middle School,
