PARENTS

We are pleased to welcome an expert and highly praised author to our district next week to share his thoughts on education in America and across the globe. Thanks to this year’s Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) and Dr. Lang, we will welcome Dr. Quanyu Huang, author of The Hybrid Tiger, to Pendery Auditorium at Wyoming High School at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 24.

Dr. Huang is director of the Asian/Asian-American Studies Program and an associate professor at Miami University, as well as the author of multiple books, including several bestsellers in China. In The Hybrid Tiger, Huang assesses the strengths and weaknesses of the distinctly different educational systems of Chinese and American culture and draws on his own experiences as an immigrant from China and as a parent of a son raised in the United States. Dr. Lang was honored to read an early manuscript of the book and her review is included, saying “An extraordinary book…I would recommend (it) as an educational tool to understand the differences between the cultures of Asian and American education. More importantly, I believe it will confirm important habits and traits that help lay out critical components to successful parenting with regards to education.”

The New York Times offered an excellent review of The Hybrid Tiger in this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/02/books/review/the-hybrid-tiger-and-the-triple-package.html?_r=0

All staff and parents are invited to attend and hear Dr. Huang’s presentation. He will be selling and signing books at the close of the event. If you have any questions, please contact me. We look forward to seeing you there!
