Dear Wyoming Families,
The WMS staff and I are very excited to welcome students to our temporary home for the next 16 months. Our custodial staff and teachers have been working hard to get classrooms ready for the first day of school. Our contractors have also been making last minute repairs and installations and have been terrific partners. It has really been a team effort to be ready for August 20th.
Many of you toured the modular complex last week and I hope you are as excited as we are. We believe we have wonderful learning spaces to meet the needs of our students.

Before School Line Up
5th and 6th grade students should congregate in front of Building 1 & 2 before school.
7th and 8th grade students congregate at the south end of the Athletic Field before school.
The first day of school will be different than years past. Our staff has worked hard to create “Cowboy Camp” for our students. Cowboy Camp is a series of lessons taught by all teachers at Wyoming Middle School about the expectations and procedures of our school community. The purpose is to enhance our positive school culture and to introduce/reinforce beneficial social and academic habits to our students.
We feel Cowboy Camp is necessary to make sure all students feel safe, comfortable and ready to learn in our new school environment. It is meant to be positive, collaborative and add to our school community. Students will primarily stay with their homeroom teacher on the first day of school and begin to “switch” classes the second day of school.
Cowboy Camp begins with welcoming activities, an introduction to the modular complex and high school facilities including a tour and an explanation of procedures and behavior expectations for our cafeteria. Following lunch/recess, the students rotate through a series of lessons including personal reflections, school culture, group work & collaboration, and appropriate use of technology. The first day culminates with a school-wide pep rally in the high school stadium. Activities continue on the second day with topics such as expectations of the classroom, student handbook overview, bullying prevention, academic integrity, technology tools, and suggestions for students that will help them be successful at WMS.
5th and 6th grade students should not bring their school supplies the first two days of school. Our teachers would like for them to bring them to school beginning on Thursday (8/22/13). Students will only need pens/pencils for the first two days. All other material will be provided.
Teachers will be collecting student forms that were included in the packet on the first day of school.
